Final Thoughts

Hi and welcome to the final video in the course, introduction to sales. Looking back we really have covered a tremendous amount of ground. I know that you’re going to want to go back and not only review the entire course, but watch individual videos, take more notes, really get that full perspective so you can start to improve on the areas that you really need to improve on.

Three Elements of a Happy Life

I want to leave you with a higher thought, a metaphysical thought, if you will. There are really three elements in your life. If you have all three of these, you can say that you’re happy. If you only have two of them, you really can’t claim to be happy. The three things are your health, income, and satisfying personal relationships. If you have all three of those, you’re a happy person. I’ve been blessed my whole life to have all three of them.

But think about it. Health being the first one, if you’re not healthy, you may have money, you may have great friends, great family, great spouse, but it’s hard to be happy if you’re not healthy. If your body is not coming along for the ride, it’s just difficult. It really is.

The second element is income. You may be healthy and you may have great relationships, but you’re always struggling for money, you really can’t be happy. You’ve got to generate enough income to be happy.

The third one is satisfying personal relationships. It’s either a spouse or family, whatever it might be. If you don’t have happiness in your life, if you don’t have these kinds of relationships and people that you really love and care about, then you don’t really have a full life. A full life is health, wealth and wonderful loving relationships.

Sales falls into the income category, but it’s not the most important thing in your life. We sell, we work, we have a job, we build our own company, however it is we get into selling, we do this to generate income. The income allows us to be healthy and to take care of our health. And the income makes our relationships so much more enjoyable. It’s just so difficult to live a happy, fulfilled life if you’re not making enough money and you know that.

Most everyone on the planet has been in a position where they were struggling financially. If you’re in that position right now, I want you to know that you can sell, that selling will generate a sufficient income for you to live a satisfying and fulfilling life. At least enough so that you can take your family to a restaurant, so you can take your kids to the amusement park, Disney World. You’ve got to have that money so that you can enjoy your family and you can enjoy your health because health and loving relationships, when you’re always struggling with money is not a full life. Making money is not going to solve all your life’s problems, but it will make your life more enjoyable. I want you to know that you can improve and improve and improve.

Right Job

You need to do two things. Number one you need to find the right company, the right job selling the right product or service. Hopefully you’re in that perfect job right now. Hopefully this is perfect. A lot of you who are watching this video are your own small business owner, so you’ve got the perfect opportunity to make money from selling. You want to sell something you enjoy selling, that you’re proud of selling, that you would use yourself, that you do use yourself, and that’s fair and ethical and work for a great company. If you have all of those things, then you’re in the right job.

The other thing you want to look at, and this is very important, is the commission plan. Is the commission plan enough to make you the kind of money you want to make? If you want to make $100,000 a year and the commission plan caps out at $40 or $50,000, that’s not the right job for you. It may be a great company, great product, great service, you may love it, but you’re not going to be able to get the financial freedom that you want from selling that product. If you’re in a commission plan that is unlimited and you can really make a lot of money and there are a lot of real people examples of salespeople making that kind of money, that’s a great commission plan.

But is it the right product for you, are you happy about it, do you use it yourself, are you enthusiastic, are you really comfortable bringing lots and lots of customers into this company. If you’ve got both of those, you’ve got the perfect job. That’s number one.

Personal Responsibility

Number two, once you’re in the perfect job, sales is a team sport, but it’s really not. If you’re doing well, it’s great. If you’re not doing well, what difference does it make what the team is doing, you’re not making enough money to pay your rent or to pay your mortgage or to live the life that you want. You’ve got to take personal responsibility to find the right job and then succeed in that sales role. Don’t wait for other people to do it for you. Jump in. Learn. Study.

This is the most important step you could have taken, investing in education and knowledge about the sales’ process. You couldn’t be studying anything more important. But don’t stop here. Watch these videos over and over again. I’ve got more courses. Go out to YouTube. There are lots and lots of stuff that you can continue to learn. Take notes, index cards, improve yourself, take responsibility for your own income, and take responsibility for your own success.

I’m not telling you to be the top salesman in the company. Sometimes those people are sales addicts. They have no personal life. They’re divorced. Their kids don’t know them. They’re unhealthy. They eat donuts all day. I don’t want you to be like that. I want you to live a balanced life. But I want you to take responsibility for your health. I want you to take responsibility for your income. I want you to take responsibility for generating positive, loving relationships. If you can be all of those things, then you can say that you’re happy.

If you’re working for the right company, a company that makes you happy, that you feel good about going to work, that you feel good about inviting other people into this company, if you’re truly a good fit, then focus on making as much money as you can.

You want to focus on perfecting your sales craft. Every little word is important. Study these videos. Write notes, index cards, test yourself over and over again because when the situation comes up on the phone or in person, you are going to be completely able to handle it, handle the objection, pivot to the close, make the deal, put one in the books, and start on the next one and then next one.

Not all people that are successful in sales are happy. I know hundreds and hundreds of people that are making six figures and some mid-six figures – $300-, $500-, $700,000 a year. Real people. Insurance agents, real estate agents, independent business owners, telemarketers that are really making a lot of money – $100-, $200-, 300,000 a year. I can tell you not all of them are happy. They’re all great salespeople. They’ve all got great techniques. What I’ve done is I’ve pulled the words, the phrases, the techniques that they use and I’ve laid that all out for you, so you can become as good as them.

They’re all great salespeople. They all make a lot of money, but they’re not all happy. They don’t have a balanced life with health and positive relationships that they really spend time with. You need to balance your health, your income and your loving relationships. I want to leave you with that to take personal responsibility in all three areas of your life.

I hope you enjoyed this course. Watch it as many times as you want. Watch your favorite videos. Recommend it to your friends and let them make the investment in their own career. It’s a great, great thing. But I want to leave you with the notion of personal responsibility. My mission in life is to help as many salespeople as possible go from struggling to supporting themselves and their family to having pride in their profession and pride in their accomplishments. It’s just based on your techniques. It’s based on do you know the right words to say and do you say them. I really want you to take personal responsibility for that.

I thank you for taking the time to watch the course all the way to the end, but, more importantly, from my heart, I really want you to have a successful career and I want you to make it as financially successful as you want because you deserve it. Thank you so much.
